EXHIBITIONS
My aim in my personal work is to explore the ways of interpreting the words I have chosen. This is the beginning of a range of decisions. The arrangement and treatment of the letters - their balance, shape weight and texture can define different meanings.

Using historical lettering styles and their variations, I am interested in the act of writing and using the balance required between freedom and control. There is a link with music for me - the journey across the page involves rhythm, silence, timing and punctuation. Space is as important as the marks produced.

I admire the spontaneity present in Eastern calligraphy and the energy and simplicity of Chinese brush painting. I enjoy creating hand marbled papers and combining their natural watery dynamics with the discipline of calligraphy.
